Digital Chocolate’s MLSN Sports Picks Wins 2006 Wireless Innovation Contest Award

San Mateo, CA, April 5, 2006 MLSN Sports Picks, the first game in ground-breaking mobile Social Application series, has been recognized again for innovation and quality game play. The application won the Wireless Innovation Contest 2006 (WIC’06) Award for “Entertainment”. The winners were announced at CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas today.

WIC’06 recognizes deployed wireless applications and services that demonstrate innovation and contribute to the wireless community. Hosted by the Wireless Innovation Network of British Columbia, Wireless Excellence Awards were given out in six categories. MLSN Sports Picks was voted the best Home & Entertainment application.

Since the game’s debut last October, MLSN Sports Picks has repeatedly garnered accolades from the mobile industry for the game’s innovative design, quality content and ability to build and sustain a mobile community. In addition to today’s WIC’06 award, MLSN Sports Picks was named “Game of the Year” by IGN for Most Innovative Design and has received numerous top-rated reviews from industry sources. “We are pleased with the recognition for MLSN Sports Picks and excited by its early success,” said Trip Hawkins, founder and CEO of Digital Chocolate. “MLSN Sports Picks enables players to come together around always-fresh content, leveraging the inherent social connectivity offered by mobile phones. The result is a growing community of mobile, social gamers.”

Mobile consumers and operators have quickly become fans of MLSN Sports Picks with over 35,000 downloads recorded on Cingular, Sprint, Nextel, Verizon and Boost. Since the game’s launch, Digital Chocolate’s editors have created and served over 10,000 unique sports prediction questions covering a wide range of sporting topics such as: college and NFL football, the NBA, NASCAR, International soccer, the NHL and the Winter Olympics. Users’ satisfaction is evidenced by the fact that over 20% of users have used in-game invitations to challenge friends to join the game.

MLSN Sports Picks is based on an innovative client-server architecture, which allows Digital Chocolate to create a game-play model based on networked communities of interacting players with regularly refreshed content. Members predict outcomes to upcoming sports events to earn points and gain recognition. Members can compete and interact in public leagues sponsored by Digital Chocolate, or they can create their own private leagues and invite friends to join them for more serious competition. To further fuel friendly rivalries, players can use the ‘Trash Talk’ feature to taunt and communicate with each other through in-product text messaging.
